Patrick seemed to be a man who had everything: charm, beauty and charisma were just some of his gifts. Patrick was very rich after taking up his dream job of running the family business: a renowned ch ... ampagne company.

He used to travel a lot; he loved discovering new cultures, foods and aromas from all over the world. Patrick had grown up with his grandfather and only had a few memories of his parents. Patrick’s father died when he was very young and, after a little time, his mother returned to her home of Axum in Ethiopia and left Patrick alone.

Champagne: What a passion! … Patrick loved it so much that he used to perfume himself with it. A few drops of his Millesime on the nape of his neck in the morning and the scent was with him every moment, all day long. It was his talisman.

That day Patrick was walking down the street of his beloved Paris, looking for a gift for his beloved Marianne. Amidst the excitement of the city the sound of a violin being played by a blind man filled the air, along with the noise of car horns and the shouts of merchants. Suddenly Patrick smelled a well-known perfume. It came from a woman, an old merchant that sold the typical incense that was native to her homeland.

Patrick was stopped by his instinct and by the perfume the woman wore. They began to talk and anyone who looked at them would have thought they were old friends. The world around Patrick seemed to stop, or so he felt. The woman talked about her life, her homeland and the perfume of incense which filled the air of Ethiopia. She told him how painful it had been to lose her young French husband.

After a while Patrick understood what his heart had already grasped, the smell of this incense had brought him back to his mother. She was the one who had left him, but she was also the same woman who had always kept her eye on him over the years. Patrick’s mother told him that she had returned to France and had always been secretly near to him, as impalpable as the wind, as impalpable as the scent of her perfume - but always real. Suddenly she embraced him; so intense, so real, so exciting.
